Former Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Alhaji Muhammad Mamman Nami, on Saturday declared his intention to contest the Niger South Senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Speaking at Nami in Boku Ward, Agaie Local Government Area, Nami said he returned to the country after nearly two years at Harvard Kennedy School of Government, USA, where he studied crisis management, economic growth strategies, and national development.
“Now that I am back, I am here to personally offer myself for service to my people and humanity,” he told party leaders, elders, youth, women, and supporters.
Nami assured constituents that he was not seeking office for personal gain. “I am not here to seek your votes and support only to dump you thereafter, nor to fail to serve you after being elected as your Senator,” he said.
He cited his tenure at FIRS and 33 years of philanthropic work through the Niger South Foundation as evidence of his commitment. Projects listed include a rural hospital in Nami, a Police Secondary School and Police Station in Nami, an ICT Centre in partnership with NITDA, transformers and power lines to 12 rural communities, and the overhaul of the Agaie-Kusogbogi power supply line. He also said the foundation had provided portable drinking water to several communities in the Golden Ward.
Acknowledging that much work remained, Nami announced new interventions approved by the foundation’s trustees on 17 April 2026. He stressed that these projects were independent of his political ambition.
Key interventions include:
– Nami: JAMB fees for 100 students annually for 10 years; sponsorship of all primary pupils at Police Secondary School for 10 years; sponsorship of 50 students annually to the school with WAEC and NECO fees covered; scholarships for three students yearly to study Accountancy, ICT, or Medicine at IBB University, Lapai; and a Toyota Hilux for the Nami Police Station.
– Jipo 2: Fencing and renovation of the primary school, provision of furniture, and a borehole.
– Jipo 3, Boku, and Essangi: ₦20 million each for the completion of Central Mosques and provision of boreholes.
– Shaba Isah: Renovation and upgrade of the Central Mosque and two boreholes at a cost of ₦19 million.
– Kusogbogi: Two boreholes for the Central Mosque and village square.
– Golden Ward: Seven additional boreholes for villages facing water shortages.
“These are additional interventions by our foundation to our communities. It is not part of our campaign promises,” Nami said. “Whether I am elected to any political office or not, these projects shall be executed by our foundation, by the grace of God.”
He added that his detailed senatorial manifesto would be unveiled at a later date to guide voters.
“Our work is not about tricks, deceit, and greed; it is about service to humanity,” he concluded.
