The attention of Prof. Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman has been drawn to a wave of falsehoods circulating from various Nigerian newspapers, including The Cable, Legit NG, Punch, and others. These outlets quoted claims that Amana suggested Kwara North is at a political disadvantage.
To set the record straight, these stories did not originate from Prof. Sulaiman or his media team. Instead, they appear to be an attempt to undermine the growing popularity Prof. Sulaiman has enjoyed across Kwara State. Moreover, they seem designed to pit Amana against the hardworking people of Kwara North and aspirants from the region.
Reflecting on his political journey, it’s clear that Amana has been a staunch supporter of the Kwara North Project. It is politically naive and ignorant to interpret his comments in the recent video as an insult to Kwara North’s people especially at a time when Prof Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman is also vying for the Governorship ticket.
For the record, within the same video which political entrepreneurs now attempt to manipulate, Amana made it clear that he understands the importance of power rotation in a diverse state like Kwara. He said, “For a state with diverse people and communities, power rotation is key. I don’t blame anybody talking about zoning. I am not against zoning, I am not against power rotation, and I support the call by some sections of Kwara for their turn. But the real question is: how does power rotation and zoning translate into electoral victory?”
Isn’t it reasonable to ask such questions?
Furthermore, it’s vital for the public to know that Prof. Sulaiman has already reached out to national newspapers that published the false story, urging them to correct the misinterpretation of his words. Despite ongoing attempts by some politicians to turn public opinion against Amana, Prof. Sulaiman remains undisturbed. His sole focus is securing the ticket to continue supporting Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq’s efforts and to serve as Kwara’s next governor.
