Kwara State Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Yunusa Lade, represented the state at the official launch of the Federal Government’s $500 million Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) Project. The initiative is led by the Honourable Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Terlumun Utsev.
At the event, Hon. Lade reaffirmed Kwara State’s readiness and strong commitment to advancing sustainable development in water resources and agriculture.
Kwara State secured a strategic position in the SPIN Project after successfully meeting all participation requirements.
This achievement was driven by deliberate actions, including the payment of counterpart funds, the enactment of the Water Users Association (WUA) Law, and the provision of a viable 3,000-hectare irrigation site.
Notably, the Duku-Lade Irrigation Scheme has been selected as one of the pilot projects, positioning Kwara at the forefront of the project’s implementation.
This milestone aligns with the vision of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to strengthen irrigation systems, boost agricultural productivity, support farmers, and enhance food security across the state.
Kwara State remains committed to maximising this opportunity through strong collaboration with the Federal Government and development partners such as the World Bank, with the goal of achieving sustainable water management and food security.
